Many pre-festival positions are being created to assist with preparations for the festival. These positions may exceed 12 hours to get the job done. It allows volunteers the freedom to enjoy the festival for 5 days without having to work during the festival!
Volunteer Schedule Coordinators
Location: Your home
Days: as much as needed August - September
Hours: 12; Large venues may exceed 12 hours as needed to finalize your schedule before the festival.
Shifts: none
Duties: Work with Volunteer Coordinator to create volunteer schedules with information from volunteer applications. Work with Site Managers to assign team leaders. Make phone calls as needed to former volunteers and applicants to complete schedules. Publish schedule following standardized format and email to assigned volunteers. Edit schedule as needed to address cancellations and changes in music sets.
Required: Must own a laptop or computer with Microsoft Office and have strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Must be good at emailing attachments and following links to websites. Must be willing to participate in on-line training with Volunteer Coordinator and periodic teleconference calls for 4 weeks prior to Festival.

RV-Lot Prep Team
Location: River Run Lodge Parking Lot for RVs
Days: Weekend before the festival
Hours: 8 am – 4 pm
Shifts: 1 or 2 days
Duties: Stripe the parking lot for use during festival, and post highway and RV lot signs
Required: Early arrival to Sun Valley (Thursday, October 12)
Positions: 2
Communications Office Worker
Location: Volunteer & Communications will share the same room
Days: Monday (pre-festival) – Sunday, October 16-22
Hours: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm, except Sunday 9:00-noon
Shifts: 3-4 hour shifts, 2 people each shift
Duties: Answer telephones and provide information to callers. Record attendance reports called in from venues.
Required: Good communication skills (hearing/speaking). This position is sitting down.
Boise Airport Driver
Location: Drive musicians between Boise Airport and Sun Valley
Days: Monday – Monday
Hours: Times vary according to airline schedules
Shifts: 6-8 hours shifts: round trip to Boise airport.
Duties: Transport musicians between Boise airport and Sun Valley Resort using rented Jazz van.
Required: Interview is required. Experience driving 12-15 passenger van or equivalent. Good driving record and insurance. Able to drive at night.
Information Booth
Location: Sun Valley Inn lobby
Days & Times:
Tuesday, October 17th: Noon - 4:30 pm
Wednesday, October 18th: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Thursday, October 19th: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Friday, October 20th: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Saturday, October 21st: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Shifts: 3 hours each, 1 people each shift
Duties: Greet ALL guests and thank those with Sponsor ribbons. Provide them with directions to events, restaurants, restrooms, pool, spa, etc. Hand out schedules or other information.
Required: Standing or sitting on a bar stool for duration of shift.
RV Lot Host
Location: River Run Lodge Parking Lot for RVs
Days: Tuesday – Friday
Hours: 9 am – 12 pm daily
Shifts: 3-hour shifts x 4 days
Duties: Check RVs that have arrived during the previous day for payment of parking fee. Provide information on special requirements for boondocking (dry camping without hook-ups). Provide information on the amenities available for showers, trash and sightseeing.
Required: RV lot volunteers must be staying in the RV lot. Have fun meeting others!
Position: 1
Site Door Greeter
Location: All venues
Days: Wednesday – Sunday
Hours: Varies per music schedule
Shifts: 4 hours shifts, number of people per shift varies according to venue size.
Duties: Control access at entry doors by checking all badges. Assist patrons with seating. Supervise priority seating area, dance floors and eating area. Pick up trash between sets.
Required: Volunteers may sit at door to check badges, but at least two of the attendants in each shift must be able to pick up trash between sets.
Site Shift Captain
Location: All venues
Days: Wednesday – Sunday
Hours: Varies per music schedule
Shifts: 4 hours shifts
Duties: Manage all volunteers during shift. Introduce each band and provide safety/restroom briefing per template. Ensure water supplies are available for patrons. Contacts site manager for assistance in emergencies. Fill out accident reports in case of injury during the shift. Count attendees for each set. Record attendance numbers in Red Book and report it to the Communications Center.
Required: Interview required. Experience managing people/volunteers. Volunteer experience at festival.
